Bolagala Agro Floating Resort is Sri Lanka's first floating resort. It has 31 floating cabanas on a 13-acre lake in Katana, near Negombo, with an organic farm, two restaurants (The Float and The Essence), a lounge bar (The Glow) and a floating pool. It opened on 1 March 2024.

Yes. The cabanas, the pool and The Float restaurant sit on the water. A walkway joins them to the shore, so you do not need a boat to reach your room. Reception and The Essence restaurant are on land.

Because it is also a working farm. The resort runs organic greenhouses, a spice garden and a tea plantation, and farms fish in the lake. The produce goes to its kitchens, and guests can join in. About the farm.

The site was a clay mine. The abandoned mining pits filled with rainwater, and instead of filling them in, the project turned them into a 13-acre lake and floated the resort on it. Read our story.

The resort was developed by Sri Lankan entrepreneur Kelum Perera, its chairman, with around thirty local investors and homegrown engineers.
